Abbas photographed holding PA daily with cartoon on back cover that depicts an Israeli soldier poisoning a Palestinian baby

Cartoon published on the back cover of the official PA daily

Text on cartoon: “Laila Gandour (see note below- Ed.)”

The cartoon shows an Israeli soldier removing a bottle from a baby’s mouth and replacing it with a bottle marked with the skull and crossbones symbol for poison.
The cartoon refers to Laila Gandour, an 8-month-old Palestinian baby girl who died on May 21, 2018, at the March of Return riots on the Gazan border with Israel, to which her family had brought her. The Palestinians have claimed that she died of tear gas inhalation; however, she suffered from existing health conditions and the cause of death has not been determined. Pictures of Gandour and her funeral have become a symbol of the border riots.

The day after the cartoon was published, a picture was taken of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas reading the official PA daily while hospitalized in Ramallah, and this cartoon was clearly visible on the back cover. This picture of Abbas has been widely disseminated in the media, possibly to show him being well after being hospitalized with pneumonia.

US and Israel will drown in the ocean, because “Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine” – animation by Abbas’ Fatah

Text and video posted on the official Fatah Facebook page

Posted text: “#Jerusalem. is an Arabic & Islamic city, what ever you claim Mr. #Trump !!”

The video shows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump floating on a white raft in the middle of the sea, with a sign on which is written in Hebrew, Arabic, and English: "US Embassy," and Israeli and American flags. He is holding a paper on which is written in English: “Jerusalem capital of Israel,” and is heard saying “and Jerusalem is Israel's capital.” Immediately after his declaration, the raft breaks in two, and Trump drowns together with the Israeli flag. Netanyahu jumps into the water as well and disappears. The sign flips, and the reverse side of it reads in English and Arabic: "Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine." A ship flying the UN flag and the flags of a number of countries including Ireland, Turkey, Lebanon, and other Arab countries then pulls up to stop by the raft. On the ship an elderly woman wearing a Palestinian flag and a younger woman dressed in black, meant to represent Ahed Tamimi, are seen waving.

This video was posted by Abbas’ Fatah Movement on Facebook on the day the US embassy opened in Jerusalem.

Official PA daily reports on “rage activities” which will take place in protest of the US embassy’s move to Jerusalem, inviting Palestinians to participate in the “March of Return”

Headline: "Rage activities throughout Palestine in protest against the transfer of the American embassy and for Jerusalem"

"In light of the occupation's current preparations to celebrate the transfer [of the US embassy to Jerusalem], the Palestinian people from throughout the occupied homeland is thronging to the mass activities that were called for by the [Palestinian] National and Islamic Forces, which will reach their peak on May 15 in the large March of Return towards the territories that were occupied in 1948 (i.e., Israel)."

Palestinian National and Islamic Forces - an unaffiliated coordinating body comprised of representatives from factions in the PLO and outside the PLO. The Palestinian National and Islamic Forces were established in 2000 shortly after the start of the PA terror campaign (the second Intifada, 2000-2005), under the authorization of Yasser Arafat and the leadership of terrorist Marwan Barghouti. During the PA terror campaign it played an active role in coordinating political efforts and terror attacks against Israel, but since the end of the campaign it has been less significant and its activity is primarily centered in Gaza.
